International Relationship ??
I just read this email from my friend Mr. Proenza from Italy, he wrote :
Dear Onno, Bona,
On 20 January I made a presentation to the senior management ICT staff of USAID. It is based on my paper “The Road to Broadband Development in Developing Countries is through Competition Driven by Wireless and VoIP”. A copy of my presentation is attached. A copy of the full paper may be downloaded from here
My paper discusses the Tourism school and the Ministry of Education program on pages 20 and in the cluding remarks on page 24. My presentation also discusses the Tourism school and the Ministry of Education project on slides 22 and 23. The first recommendation appearing on slide 27 of the presentation is: Training in wireless networking, including administration and
management of sustainable networks.During my discussion of my presentation I specifically recommended the upgrading of the the Centre for ICT Studies, so that it could become a regional school in wireless, serving the needs of Asian communities. USAID officials liked the idea and want to explore it now. To this effect, they have asked Dennis Foote, Vice President and Director, AED Center for
Applied Technology to accompany
me in a visit to your school to discuss this possible project. I believe this would be a great opportunity, both for the Centre for ICT Studies, as well as for ICT development in Asia. What I would like for you to please do is: 1. Have concrete WRITTEN information eadily available on:
how many peope you have trained in WiFi and other wireless technologies how many WiFi networks have been established in the country and are in operation. (please give specific location and an estimate of how many establishments are being served) – a full description of your present teaching syllabus. (duration of training program, title of subjects covered, number of students taught during each program cycle, participating teachers and their qualifications)- full description of the Ministry of Education program in Indonesia.2. Identify what you feel are the most important needs you would have in order to convert your school from a national school serving the country to a regional school serving other countries. We could start, for example, with training of 30 students from the region per year. Upgrading the school might then require, for example,
- English language training,
- additional wireless communications training,
- additional professors
- money to cover the cost of instructors
- etc.I do not really know what it is you might need. YOU know better than I do;
so feel free to make your own specifications. But I do believe that this is an exceptional opportunity to make a difference in ICT development in Asia.Please feel free to ask me questions about this proposal
